Posted by Cleora,

There have been some times in my life when I just knew that I would be getting better at the magic tricks that I was learning. Still, it was just so hard for me not to be discouraged when everything was happening the way that it was. So, I know that it is time for me to learn some new easy magic tricks for kids. I think that will help me in my quest to find the best magic tricks that work so well that no one really knows how to do them, or how they are accomplished except me. That is my goal.

I think the practice part of doing magic tricks is what puts most people off from becoming any good at it. It’s hard to practice and you’ll only do it well if you’re really interested in the subject. Those who have a passion will always put in much more time and effort and end up becoming the David Copperfield’s of their own chosen profession.

I got my kids a set of magic for them to play with. They loved it. The tricks are easy to learn but to do them really well it still takes the kids quite a bit of time to practice them. I’m impressed with the way they’ve taken this on. Maybe we have something to be thankful to Harry Potter for after all.

I  think of a great composer like Andrew Lloyd Webber. He is a bit of a magician as he produces great original music loved the world over. He was the only one to write it, but it’s enjoyed and performed by so many other great musicians for their enjoyment. Sometimes it’s better to produce something original that everyone else can share and take part in and enjoy.

It must be great to be in a position where you are the only one who knows how to do something. I suppose great magicians like David Blaine have that gift, but one thing to remember about magic tricks. They are an illusion and for the really big tricks the magician needs people to give help setting them up so they also know how the tricks are done.

Often you have to take a step back so you can move forward. I’ve found myself so engrossed in doing a task my way only to find out from my brother that he does the same thing much quicker by doing it a different way. It’s helps to be able to share what you’re doing with someone close as finding new ways of doing things can help you move on much faster.

If you’re just starting out with magic tricks you don’t need to find the perfect magic trick or even the best magic trick. What matters is you practice. When you start magic you find there are lots of routines you need to work at time after time until you can do them so fast you even amaze yourself. When you reach that level you may be ready to tackle the perfect magic trick.

Learning a new skill is always difficult at first. There’s the first rush of enthusiasm as you open the box and take out the new stuff, read the book and start doing for the first time. The danger comes when you put all the stuff back in the box, put it on the shelf and if you’re not committed it never gets opened again.

I’ve got three kids and one of the best ways to entertain them and teach them at the same time is to get them involved learning some easy magic tricks. With three kids it’s easy to get the oldest one to help the younger ones because they need to practise to learn to do them well. They’re learning a skill in the same way kids learn how to play the piano.
