Having all your domains registered at the one registrar will make it so much easier to manage, rather than having multiple accounts spread out all over the Internet.

When you first land on the Godaddy home page you will be asked to…

1. Type in your desired domain name in the search form.

2. Choose the extension you wish but I only recommend a “.com”

3. Hit the Go button.

It’s that SIMPLE.

Now, just wait a few seconds until GoDaddy does it’s search and informs you if your desired domain is available.

If the search for your preferred domain name has been unsuccessful and is unavailable It will be necessary for you to repeat the search process using the next desired domain name from your list of preferred site names.

GoDaddy will also provide you a list of alternative suggestions based on your initial search at the bottom of the page.

For example if you wanted the domain name “mywebsite.com” and it is unavailable at the very bottom of the page Godaddy will make a suggestion like “mywebsiteonline.com”

Once you have a positive result and your domain name is available to purchase, Scroll Down The Page Until You See The ‘Proceed To Checkout‘ Button.

After clicking on the ‘Proceed To Checkout‘ button you will then be taken to a screen asking if you want to upgrade your purchase, usually they will offer you the opportunity to buy the same domain name with a different extension. ie; .net .info…etc

It is not necessary to obtain additional domain names but if you would like the security of being protected from competitors using similar domain names then by all means follow the suggestions to make the additional purchase.

Your next step is to set up your account. Just follow the prompts and Complete the required fields.

In the next screen you should see, you will be given the option to register your domain name for a desired length of time, anywhere from 1 year to 10 years.

The longer the registration; the less cost your domain name will usually be. You are also given the option of making your registration public or private.

If you decide to leave your information set as public, it will be accessible from ‘www.whois.com’.

The option of a private registration will an additional cost, but it stops any one finding out who owns a particular domain name.

If you have decided to leave your details set as public you will then be sent to a screen where you can confirm all of the details you have filled in up to this point. Read this page carefully Godaddy are the masters of Up selling so make sure you are only ordering what you actually want.

By signing up for newsletters you will often have the opportunity to receive a discount when purchasing your domains.

I am always receiving discounts almost every week some 10% and some as much as 30% off the retail price you would normally pay for a domain name.

Make sure you update your cart after inserting your discount code before clicking on the checkout now button.

Next, you will need to choose your preferred method of payment, also confirm that you agree to the terms and policy agreement, then click the checkout now button,

Your next step is to make sure your account details are correct everything is in order, then “Checkout”.

Congratulations you have just purchased your first ‘.com’ domain name.

As part of my business strategy has always been to use a .com domain name I have never personally purchased a “.com.au,” so to be fair I can not give you a personal preference or any links to particular sites that provide .com.au’s,

What I can suggest you do is search Google for the term “register .com.au” (if you live in Australia) and you will get plenty of results that you can sift through.

The main reason I havn’t purchased a local domain for here in Australia is because I’ve always had the opinion that having a website has global exposure so why would you limit yourself or any aspect of your business. To me it never made good business sense.
