If you think you may have mold allergy symptoms, it is best to get checked by a doctor as soon as possible to make sure. Mold is an organism that can be found just about everywhere. Everyone is exposed to at least a little mold everyday. It’s in the air we breathe and in food products where mold may have already started to grow. In most cases this daily contact does not cause any kind of reaction. However, if a person has a mold allergy, exposure to a small amount of mold can cause an allergic reaction. Mold is a fungus that breaks down organic particles such as plant or animal matter. This is present outdoors and indoors. The problems with having the allergy are the mold spores that trigger a reaction such as allergic rhinitis or asthma. Also molds can produce VOCs which is the musty odor of the mold that can irritate the eyes, nose, and throat.
