We’re in the midst of buying new window coverings for our home but we’re kind of stuck with the bay window in our living room. It’s a fairly unique shape and size, apparently, and there don’t seem to be any bay window treatments that are ready-made to fit. We’re trying to keep the costs down as much as possible, so custom blinds were a little out of our budget. But it looks like we might have to go the custom route for the bay window, at least. I guess they could be custom made to look like they’re not custom made, right?
I prefer curtains when it comes to odd shaped windows. They don’t have to fit exactly, and still look perfectly fine. You might want to look into the prices on them before you start looking for custom work.
When we bought new window treatments, we had Home Depot come out and give us a quote on custom blinds. It didn’t cost anything for the quote, and they were less than we expected. You might want to give them a shot if there’s one local to you.
What kind of window treatments are you looking for? Some types, like curtains or drapes, don’t necessarily have to fit exactly the way blinds or shutters would. You might be able to get away with “close enough” sizes.
Have you checked on the internet to see what you can find? We bought our window blinds online and it was quite a bit cheaper than the local window covering shop was going to charge. Fortunately, my husband was able to hand them himself so it was a good deal.
Aren’t bay windows a pain sometimes? I love the way they look, but things like this and keeping them clean can make them less attractive. I don’t know if I’d want one if we were building our own house.
Yeah, I’d get a quote from a couple of window covering shops. They don’t normally charge for quotes, and if it’s just for the one window it might not cost as much as you think it will. They can probably even make it to match any other coverings in your home.
Have you talked to a custom window covering shop to get a quote? It shouldn’t cost you anything, and at least then you’ll have an idea of what custom blinds are going to cost you.
Our living room has a big bay window and it took me a long time to find something I liked to cover it. We ended up getting a custom blind made for it. It cost a fair bit, but it looks great and fits just right.
