All pan concrete mixers work on basically the same principle whereby a cylindrical pan contains the concrete waiting to be mixed and two sets of blades rotate inside the pan. The shape of the blades and the rotational axis vary. The pan mixer has another element called a scraper and sometimes the axis of rotation coincides with the pan axis. To discharge the concrete mixer, the pan is usually emptied through a trap on the bottom, but with smaller mixers the blades are simply lifted and the pan can be removed to empty the mixer with limited complexity. Usually the individual blades and pans are independently powered.
