Air conditioning manufacturers are required to get their equipment tested for how energy efficient it is and it is then given a rating. This is a federal legal requirement. Now when you simply need to replace an existing central AC or are considering installing a new one, you have to make sure that the contractors who bid on the job will perform a detailed calculation of the “cooling load” so that you’ll have the proper system installed. It is best not to use a simple rough calculation which can result in oversized equipment.
