Posted by Wendell,
I was looking for an activity that my whole family would enjoy and my friend Karl suggested go karts. Up til that point I had not even thought about go karts as a family activity. Karl took us all out the locak go kart track on a Saturday afternoon and we had a blast.
We went almost every week for a couple months, but we were just spectators. Once we got a taste of go karting we soon had to get in on the action ourselves. My oldest son and I started racing shortly thereafter and my wife and other three kids were in the stands cheering us on. If you have not tried go kart racing or at least watching the kart races you don’t know what you are missing.
Dang karts are fun! I just drive electric karts but even they are getting to be pretty fast. I really like the fact that they are so quiet. The gas karts really hurt my ears even with ear protection.
You can rent karts if you are short on cash. That way you can check out the sport and see if it is something you want to get more involved in. I rented karts for a number of months before I decided to buy one of my own.
Great post. I was looking for more information on karts and ran across your post. How much money do you have to spend to get a decent go cart? I’d like to try it but I don’t have much money to waste.
Have you seen some of the newer go karts? Those things are getting pretty sophistcated. And boy are they fast! I tried one out the other day and I thought I was going to crash and I had not even hit half way on the throttle.
My pop and I built a go kart from scatch when i was kid. He was good at welding and it only took us a few weekends to get the thing built. We used an old five hp garden tiller engine and I had a lot of fun riding it around. Pop was not too happy wne I wore a track in the grass though.
I would have not thought it, but my wife is nuts over go kart racing. She usually does not like most motor sports but once we starting going to the kart races she was hooked.
I agree that go karts can be a lot of fun, but remember there is a certain degree of danger in driving those things. My brother had a bad accident a number of years ago driving in a go kart race. I will have to admidt that he has always been a bet wreckless and takes too many chances. It took him a bout a year to totally heal from all his injuries.
I wish we had a go kart track close to where we live. I used to drive karts when I was a kid and we lived in Southern Californa. My dad and I had our own go kart and we had it really tuned up. I’m sure my boy would live go karts as much as I did.
