But on the other hand, you cannot afford just to sit back and watch whatever traffic that is coming to your site just pass by like an interested onlooker, browsing through your websites content, and then disappearing into the world wide web, never to be heard of again.

You need to create some kind of interaction with them… but more about that later.

Lets say for example that you had a thousand visitors come to your website every day, but not once do you ask them for their name and email address.

How are you going to let those people know about your latest offer, free report, or some other great news that you have just heard about.

If you can’t get the traffic that is coming to your site to come back again and again then, you are letting a vast amount of money and potentially letting the success of your online business, slip through your fingers.

That’s why I wanted to point out what some key elements of getting your visitors coming back to your site are.

This article really is just skimming the surface on list building and how you could be collecting the details from your websites visitors…

and is only an introduction to a series of articles I am wanting to write on how building your list and forming a relationship with your list, is paramount to the success of your online enterprise.

Some Simple ways that will help you to build your list are…

Ask you visitors to subscribe to your RSS feed.

By subscribing to your RSS feed your visitors will automatically be notified of any new content that you add to your website.

Basically every time you publish a new piece of content to your site, they will instantly be notified via their RSS reader.

So the trick is to write content that will compel your RSS subscribers to stay interested and want to stay up to date with your content, as a result they will be more likely to come back to your site, again and again.

If your site doesn’t have an RSS feed then I would recommend you add one, or just start using Wordpress.

Create an Opt-in list.

leads that are gathered through an Opt In list are usually collected when your visitors sign up for your free report or e-zine,

Usually you would use a service like Aweber.com and create a set of automated follow up emails that pre-sells your visitors on products or services that you have to offer.

You can also notify your opt in list of any new content you add to your website or run a promotion or product launch by sending out a series of broadcast emails.

Fill out a Survey

A great way of finding out what your readers actually want is by asking your visitors to fill out a survey, and as a special thank-you gift for taking the survey, offer a free report that you will send them via email.

You can really get to know your market at a much deeper level by getting your audience to do a survey.

This will help you to promote specific products or services, you can even get a feel for the direction you should start to head in, and then create content that best suits your readers wants and needs.

Promote your products to affiliates.

Affiliating your products is a great way that you can piggyback off someone else’s list in order to build your list.

To do this successfully, first off need to have your own product, and secondly, you really need to offer a very attractive commission.

Usually a 75% payout is a good starting point. You need to do your numbers and figure out what would be the average lifetime value of your client and ask yourself what you would be prepared to pay to buy your new lead.

Giving away a part, or all of  your profit in order to build your list is a similar concept to paying for advertising. but the affiliate who is sending you, his or her leads, is doing all of your advertising for you.

This is a great way of quickly and easily building a list.

Leaving Comments.

Having your visitors interact with you through the content on your site is another great way of building your list, there is a plugin that I use that will add your visitors to your mailing list whenever they leave a comment on your blog you can find the plugin by Clicking Here.

By asking your visitors to leave a comment on your web-page and interacting with them you start to create a community environment around your website, people like to get involved in a conversation, so they will often like to keep up to date with the comments on a particular article.

Protecting The Flock From Straying.

Although it is essential to continuously work at building and adding new contacts and leads to your list, their is a vital ingredient to building a successful online business that you cannot ignore.

Build a relationship with your list so they trust you, and have faith in your Opinion.

Maintaining a relationship with Your Opt-in List and Subscribers is the best way of leveraging and capitalizing on the potential of your list.

There are so many ways you can do this, Twitter, Facebook, My space, Friend feed, plain old email, etc… are all great ways of maintaining a relationship with your list.

To succeed online, or offline for that matter, you must keep in touch with your list and subscribers constantly to avoid losing them.

I don’t mean by constantly sending them a barrage of sales pitches every other day Just a quick email or tweet that will help you readers in some way.
